Bronchial asthma is a type of disease wherein the tracheobronchial tree shows increased responsiveness to various stimuli. It will then result to the paroxysmal constriction of the airways.
Bronchial asthma is one of the most common forms of asthma. It is a type of disease of the lungs wherein there is a ventilation disturbance that will lead the respiratory passages to provoke shortness of breath. The cause is mainly due to no airflow going down to the airways. When this happens, there is no sufficient gas exchange. Then, eventually it will result to an asthma attack coupled with the bronchial wall to swell and there is an increase in mucus secretion.
During the initial stage, there will be no signs of any symptoms at all. When the disease will slowly progress, there will be an increase secretion of mucus in between of the attacks. Bronchial asthma is also classed as intrinsic meaning there is no cause can be shown. However, on some occasions it can be caused by an allergen. Although some people with asthma have taken allergy tests and turn out to be positive, this does not mean that the allergy will be the cause of any asthma symptom.
It is very important to take note that symptoms do occur spontaneously. It can be triggered through engaging in vigorous exercise, respiratory infections, stress, anxiety, tobacco smoke, drug allergies or food allergies. When the symptoms start to occur, what usually happens is that the muscle within the bronchial tree will tighten and the lining found on the air passages will start to swell. Thus, reducing the airflow and then eventually producing a wheezing sound. Then, there will be an increase secretion of the mucus. Bronchial asthma can lead to shortness of breath, cough and wheezing.
What usually happens is that a person will breathe normally and then have periodic attacks producing a wheezing sound. Asthma attacks can be mild or severe. There are some attacks that can last within minutes and for some can last every day which can be dangerous especially when the airflow will become severely restricted.
The ratio of asthma is that 1 out of 20 out of the overall population does have this health condition. Then, 1 out of 10 children will have an asthma related incidence. There is no certainty as to what age it can develop. It can appear during childhood or even if when a person is in his 40s or 50s. Asthma is hereditary. If there is a family history of allergies, eczema or asthma, then there is a possibility that a person will have asthma.
As for treatment, it is directly aimed towards avoiding allergens coupled with medication in order to control the symptoms. There are available medications to cure asthma. Medications would only depend whether the asthma is mild, severe, or acute.
To reduce the occurrence of symptoms, it is highly recommended to stay away from know allergens such as cigarette smokes, household pets like dogs and cats, and avoiding eating foods that can trigger asthma.
