Asthma is a health condition that affects the respiratory system especially the lungs. It can develop during childhood or even when a person reaches 20s or 30s. Development of asthma symptoms varies on each person it might be due to too much exposure of allergens or it is because there is someone in the family who has asthma and it’s hereditary.

There are some people who develop asthma around the age of 30. This is termed as intrinsic asthma or sometimes known as nonallergic asthma.

Intrinsic asthma is usually triggered by several factors such as exercise, air pollution, respiratory infections and inhaling chemical irritants. Until now, doctors have not pinpointed what are the origins of intrinsic asthma.

It is very important for a sufferer of asthma to very well know more about the kind of asthma he is suffering. This would be a great help of getting the right medical treatment. However, people who have asthma might have intrinsic or extrinsic. For instance, a person who has extrinsic asthma might experience attacks when he has flu and yet it can be caused by intrinsic triggers too.

Intrinsic asthma has similar characteristics to that of extrinsic asthma which is an obstruction and inflammation of the airway and its symptoms are not associated with any allergic reaction.

Symptoms for both intrinsic and extrinsic asthma include wheezing, coughing, rapid breathing or shortness of breath. When it comes to intrinsic asthma the immune system is not affected.

With intrinsic asthma, there is no production of antibodies. Even though the skin shows reactions to various antigens, it will not lead to an asthma attack. It might be cause by an irritation of the muscles or nerves found inside the airways.

For those asthmatics, their airways are most unlikely to be sensitive. Asthma usually presents itself through constricted smooth muscle, increased secretion of mucus and inflammation of the airways.

One of the most challenging things when it comes to intrinsic asthma is getting the right asthma treatment. It is because what triggers asthma is unknown, thus there will be lesser chances to avoid the triggers.

There are certain precautions that a patient can do in order to avoid intrinsic asthma attacks. It includes avoiding strong agents or perfume with strong odors as much as possible, not visiting pubs, discos, clubs or bars and wearing mask when working around dusty areas. These are few of the things that can be done still there are many factors that can trigger asthma.

Bringing along inhalers and other forms of medications for asthma can be a very good way to combat an asthma attack. At least, when an attack strikes in, relief will be obtain in no time unless the attack is severe that it needs further assistance of medical experts.

A patient or an asthmatic should have to do two things. First, avoid all possible substances that might trigger an intrinsic asthma attack. Second is to bring along an inhaler as asthma prevention. In this way, such person will be well-ready and fully equipped if anything happens.
